Like the anime, this book is very funny and I would highly recommend it to anyone as a means to being more introspective and simultaneously light hearted about everyday life by providing an interesting perspective on it. It is an absolutely underrated jem of a series. The translation is pretty good and the art is great. Please support the author and encourage more translation by buying this book if you enjoy the series.

About the Author
Dwight H. Perkins is the H. H. Burbank Professor of Political Economy Emeritus at Harvard University and former director of the Harvard Institute for International Development. Professor Perkins is a leading scholar on the economies of East and Southeast Asia. Professor Perkins’s legacy is contained not only in the many chapters he has contributed to Economics of Development and in his many scholarly books and articles, but also in the thousands of students he has taught over his distinguished academic career (including all of his current coauthors!).

Steven Radelet joined Economics of Development for its fifth edition. At the time he was a fellow at Harvard’s Institute for International Development and taught in both Harvard’s economics department and the Kennedy School of Government. He subsequently was deputy assistant secretary of the U.S. Treasury for Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia; a Senior Fellow at the Center for Global Development; and Senior Advisor on Development for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. He is an expert on foreign aid, developing country debt and financial crises, and economic growth, and he has extensive experience in West Africa and Southeast Asia. He currently serves as Chief Economist for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

David L. Lindauer is the Stanford Calderwood Professor of Economics at Wellesley College, where he has taught since 1981. He has frequently served as a consultant to the World Bank and was a faculty associate of the Harvard Institute for International Development. Professor Lindauer’s area of expertise is in labor economics. His research and policy advising has included work on industrial relations, labor costs and export potential, minimum wages, poverty and unemployment, public sector pay and employment, and racial affirmative action. He has worked on labor market issues in East and Southeast Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and elsewhere. Professor Lindauer, an award-winning teacher of economics, brings his considerable experience teaching undergraduates to this edition.

Steven A. Block is Professor of International Economics and head of the International Development Program at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University. He joins Economics of Development beginning with the seventh edition and has been teaching development economics at the Fletcher School since 1995. Professor Block also holds a faculty appointment at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University, and has been a visiting scholar at the Harvard University Center for International Development and at Harvard’s Weatherhead Center for International Affairs. He has published numerous scholarly articles in the areas of agricultural development and political economy, and worked extensively on policy advisory teams across Sub-Saharan Africa and in Southeast Asia.

Really helpful for the beginner.

On a lot of these woodworking books the problem is that information becomes quickly outdated. You buy a book because the price is so low, and then realize it's from the 80's or 90's. Even some books that are over a year old are outdated. My point is this book is timeless really. If you a beginner you NEED this book, and for under $10 it's a steal!

This book goes over everything you could possibly want to know, from building and stockings shop, to making any kind of cut, joinery, finishing, everything is covered. I would not really buy this book for the plans, but they are not terrible at all. Maybe a little outdated, but still they work.

If you are just starting or are interested in woodworking buy this book now.

This book is wonderful. Without it I would not have passed biostatistics I. I don't even read my course textbook, I relied completely on this book and scored a "B" on my final. Several of my classmates also purchased this book and feel the same way as I do. Our course director is actually going to incorporate this book into the course next year. It is a short read, roughly 90 pages. The nice thing about it is you can look up the topic in the index and skip around based upon what concept you are trying to understand. The authors do a phenomenal job of breaking down concepts with minimal math. I appreciate this as incorporating math makes it way more confusing. I want to understand the fundamental concepts first.

Really Ridiculously Simple

This book is great. I just started a literature review course, and I was feeling a little overwhelmed by all the biostatistical tests that were being done in all the trials that we were reviewing. I had taken a biostats course, but I barely understood was going on during that time as well. This book gave a simple explanation for most of the tests that were being discussed in the studies and helped me to better understand why the test was being done and what each test was used for.

I recommend this book for someone who needs a really simplified explanation of biostats. As the title of the book implies, the author really makes biostats seem ridiculously simple.

Errata, errata, errata :(

I like their basic premise: practice the specific things you will be tested on. This isn't foolproof, of course, but I'm finding their math questions challenging (in a good way - I'm waaay out of practice) and their vocab sections seemed to have good tips too (I feel a bit more comfortable with vocab right off the bat). Lots of practice questions, good explanations and shortcuts. I like it.
My big issue is that I'm finding mistakes (like WRONG answers to questions) and misprints all through the book. But what's even more frustrating is trying to Google "Princeton Review Cracking the GRE errata" and coming up with NOTHING. I get it, nobody's perfect, but at least admit you made mistakes and make it easy to find the corrections. There is NO excuse for Princeton Review not to have this info easily accessible when it could be on their website within moments of figuring out there's a problem.

Very clear and concise. Preparing to take my exam so I will update on the score I get. I think this manual covered all the topics and useful strategies. One thing: you can't just read this and take the test. You actually need to practice the strategies. I'm generally a great test taker, but I never really had a set strategy which I'm sure is the difference between a decent score and a spectacular one.

Online access doesn't work on 2 computers I have

The online software that comes with the book doesn't work on my new Mac or my old PC. I emailed Princeton IT per the instructions in the book and they never responded. Since I bought the book for the online access to the practice tests it is a waste of money.

Captivating story

I LOVED THIS BOOK. Let me first say that I don't read romance. As a genre, the stuff I tried to read in my youth (200 years ago, when dinosaurs roamed the earth) was melodramatic, sordid, over-the-top, blech. Now that I've read The Belly Dancer, I may have to dabble in romance again. DeAnna's story of this young New Orleans girl who thinks she wants one thing, when in reality, she needs another, kept me so captivated that I read it in one day. The juxtaposition of the straight-laced Victorian society with the exotic world of not just belly dancers, but "Fair folk" made each one of Dora's jaunts to the theater so intriguing - I couldn't wait to find out what would happen.

Bottom line: If you like romance, you'll love The Belly Dancer, and if you don't like romance, you'll still love The Belly Dancer.

Fun, quick read

I initially picked up this book because I am a belly dancer and I collect all things belly dance. But the story sounded interesting and it seemed like it was written by a dancer. I read it in one day. Although the story doesn't revolve around belly dance, it does play an important part in the plot. The main character is a Victorian woman at odds with the culture shock of the belly dancers at the Chicago World's Fair. This was a time when the very word "belly" was scandalous and every detail of life was strictly regulated. The main character finds herself living in both Victorian high society and mixing with the scandalous fair performers.

When it came to the Victorian world I felt like the author did a good job of portraying the rigidness of Victorian society. She mentions different social expectations, manners, prudishness, and all those things we've come to expect from a story set in this time period. The main character and her new husband hardly know each other and sleep in separate rooms. Something unheard of today, but very common at this time period and an interesting relationship to write about. I also really liked how she described the women's clothing. I know it sounds silly, but it really does add to the story. These were high society women and fashion was a tool. It signified their social status, wealth and cunning. It also showed how important appearances and something as simple as what to wear to dinner was among the many stringent expectations imposed by society.

When it came to the fair and the belly dancers I got the impression that the writer is a dancer herself. The way she described the dancing, the music, and the costumes told me she was familiar with our dance in some way. As much as I enjoyed reading about what it may have been like for those infamous dancers, something about this part of the story felt too much like a fantasy. Perhaps it is because I know about the dance and the culture that it seems unrealistic to me. The Arabic characters are very open minded. Granted, they are dancers and musicians and why would they look down on what they do even if their own society does? But they don't seem to have any faults. They aren't racist at all, just apprehensive about foreigners and yet somehow quick to make friends. The lead dancer takes a liking to the main character and next thing you know she is openly speaking to her about how to seduce a man and how she herself has open relationships with men and plans to never marry. And the lead Arabic male character doesn't harbor any sexist thoughts whatsoever. All of this despite the fact that Egyptian culture could be just as strict about gender roles and relationships as Victorian era Americans were. I realize that the Egyptians are playing the contrast to the main character's Victorian life, but this was the most jarring for me in the story because it seemed a bit forced. It didn't ruin the story, but it made it feel less real for me.

And although I would say this is a romance story, I wouldn't really call it a typical "romance novel". It's a bit steamier than the average story, but the writing doesn't linger on those topics long. It's more like they are there because they are a genuine part of the story, but not the driving force behind it.

Overall it was an entertaining and quick read and worth the buy.

terrific historical tale

Leaving New Orleans with her new husband, Dora Chambers vows to be a good wife. To obtain her spouse's approving regard, she joins Chicago's Fair's Board of Lady Managers. However, her efforts do not register with him as he remains distant and colder than the city's weather in winter.

The Fair's Board of Lady Managers assigns Dora to the seemingly nasty task of monitoring the belly dancing exhibition at the World's Fair. While the prim and proper female elite laugh at Dora, she finds the assignment fun, likes and admirers the dancers and is attracted to their manager, Hossam Farouk. He is an enigma to her as his voice says he distrusts her, but his eyes say he wants her. Inside the pavilion, Dora feels free unlike outside where she lives in a gilded cage.

The setting of the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago provides more than just a wonderful backdrop as people from around the globe show off the best of their respective societies. In that venue, the innocent heroine, while trying to please her husband's family and friends, becomes Dora the "Explorer". However what she mostly scrutinizes is herself as she wants to break out of the chains society places on women, but also fears the consequences. THE BELLY DANCER is a terrific historical tale that proudly salutes the nineteenth century suffragette movement leaders and their everyday troops while also affirming society is so much stronger when barriers of specifically group aimed restraints are limited.
