Gr. 1-2. This colorful volume from the All Aboard Reading Series uses relatively simple words to discuss butterflies. The text explains butterflies physical kinship with other insects and presents the life cycle of a butterfly as well as camouflage, migration, and the differences between butterflies and moths. The illustrations, which combine elements of painting and cut-paper collage, create various effects, from a landscape conveying levels of depth to a large-scale butterfly isolated against a white background. Perfect book for home or classroom.

I first saw this book in a Kindergarten class. They were using it to write a research paper about Butterflies. I absolutely fell in love with the artwork and the information given. They talk about where they live their life cycle and the differences between Moths and Butterflies. The art reminds me of the background in Max and Ruby cartoon with the Bunnies. The Butterflies have very bright colors and are very realistic. I love this book! I bought it for my son. Oh and yes, Kindergarteners in NYC are being forced to write research papers!
