The verdict on this comic is clear: Buy it.

Sparks is a graphic interpretation of the novel by the same name. A classic first step into the superhero domain for writer James DeSantis. It bypasses an origin story for a before and after picture of a superhero who appears to be trying to come to terms with a truncated estimate on his lifespan. The issue might serve better as issue #0, with a taste of the sweet art and a small peek behind the eyes of its titular main character, Sparks.
The verdict on this comic is clear: Buy it. It’s a steal at .99 cents. We've all read worse comics that we've paid four dollars for. It’s a first time comic for a few independent guys who are looking to get started, and helping them alone is worth a dollar. Issue 2 is out soon and the cover promises more great work.

A story with a small scope, big heart, and a SHOCKING twist.

Do you feel as if most superhero stories have begun to seem like bland, safe stories, filled with flashy costumes and contrived plots, but completely empty characters? Then Sparks is just the JOLT your library needs. Sparks tells the story of Ethan, a young under-achiever, who is blessed with incredible abilities and cursed with a terrible illness. A combination that seems to be leading to a surprisingly heartfelt tale.
Now, the story seems promising, and the art is engaging, BUT I MUST SLAP THIS STORY WITH CRITICISM! The story is intriguing, but this issue was far too short. I WANT MORE GOOD STORY RIGHT NOW, DAMMIT! Also, while the art is great, I feel that color would make this story far more ELECTRIFYING!
Despite these flaws, Sparks is still absolutely worth picking up. Unless you hate good comics.
