A dark, twisted tale of love, lust and revenge...

RETRIBUTION is hands down the most riveting, hypnotically intense, dark romantic suspense tale I have ever read. It is also the most unsettling. The marvelously talented Natasha Knight takes the timeless revenge premise and twists it into something truly primal. Explosively sexy. And so precarious it felt like I was teetering on the edge of a cliff that I could plunge off of at any given moment. It is the kind of book that you don’t necessarily read for enjoyment, but experience viscerally, and just hope to survive. It was so gritty and raw and wickedly addictive, so volatile at times, it literally imprisoned me, heart, body and soul. To the point that I Couldn’t. Stop. Reading.
Fifteen years earlier, Adam “Smith’s” sister fell prey to the Dominican kingpin Manuel Vega and she was so traumatized by the kidnapping ordeal that she ended up taking her own life. Blinded by grief and rage, Adam has been carefully biding his time to avenge her death. And the former Navy SEAL found the perfect way to do it: Destroy the thing Vega loved best, the one thing worth more than life to him--his daughter, Elle. Break his baby girl as a means to an end to destroy the vile monster who had robbed Adam’s beautiful sister of a life. An “eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth.” He would do to his enemy’s sweet precious daughter what had been done to his sister. Hurt her, punish her for her father’s sins, eradicate all her hope and joy. Make her feel what it was like “to be taken from her home, locked up like an animal, stripped of everything.” And through a systematically planned chain of events he did just that, beckoning her slowly but surely into his lair.
"I turned my back on doing things the right way because I realized good didn’t always win. It didn’t always beat out evil. Sometimes, you had to turn evil to beat it."
First part of his diabolical plan was to make her trust him, wine and dine her, seduce her with his commanding presence and potent animal magnetism. Bring her to the height of pleasure and pain. Then, finally, once his hopelessly smitten young mark was putty in his big, strong hands, he’d move in for the kill, luring her into his trap from which there would be no escape. Once her body and spirt were irrevocably broken, at his merciless hands, he would then deliver her to her daddy a weak, shattered shell of herself. Then and only then would be have his vengeance. But the one thing he’d never counted on was Elle. Her goodness. Her beauty. Her radiant inner light. How she would bring out the humanity in him. The protector. The lover. The man capable of feeling something other than gut-wrenching pain and venom and uncontrollable rage.
I am not going to sugar coat it….This book is NOT for the faint of heart. The BDSM elements/acts of “retribution” are very hardcore. In fact, some of the scenes where Adam metes out the same brand of punishment his poor doomed sister was forced to endure, were so disturbing and brutal, I could barely breathe. I felt Elle’s fear and foreboding so acutely I too found myself bracing myself for what’s to come. And although some of the spanking scenes were undeniable hot and erotic, not all were designed to titillate. In fact, there were a couple that were so unflinchingly cruel that I wanted to cower in a corner myself and just Make. It. Stop. But as harrowing as they were, I knew there was a method to the madness.
Although this is far from your typical “boy meets girl” romance, I fell hard for this couple. I just loved Elle. She is endearing and multi-faceted, far from perfect, very much daddy’s little rich girl who was attached to her luxuries and turns a blind eye to her father’s ill-gotten gains. Nonetheless, I was drawn to her gentle nature, her resilience, her capacity for compassion and forgiveness, despite the horrific circumstances. And Adam…where do I begin to even describe the myriad of conflicting feelings I had for him? He is so fiercely alpha, so brooding and tormented, so domineering and brazenly sexy! He is so ferocious in body and spirit that he scared the living daylights out of me. It was anyone’s guess what he would do next, how low he would sink into the pits of despair, and far he would take his brand of vigilante “justice.” He broke my heart and enraged me in equal portion. And together these characters were a potent combination! Tethered together due to these unspeakable circumstances, the bond they forged was electric, pulsating with simmering rage and unbridled lust, sick, twisted desire, tenderness and torment.
This author took me places I have never been before, sweeping me up in a torrent of visceral emotions in this book. I wept with anguish. Seethed with anger. Trembled with fear. Shivers raced up and down my spine. And I found myself aching for an HEA even though a part of me worried it was beyond the realm of possibility...
I loved the psychological thriller component of this novel. Adam’s complex, deeply nuanced downward spiral as he loses his tenuous grip on reality was beyond gripping. There were times I asked myself, how in the world can a head case like Adam be redeemed after all the agony he puts the heroine through? And the answer I came up with this this: He derives no pleasure, no sweet satisfaction, from hurting her. And as harsh as he was with her, there were moments he lavished so much exquisite tenderness, gentleness even, on her it shattered me.
I think Ms. Knight did a marvelous job of providing palpable motivation for Adam’s deplorable actions, and it was truly fascinating watching him trying to “rationalize” his insane reasons for allowing the “monster” to take command. However, feeling compassion and love and protectiveness toward his prisoner was NOT part of the plan, but despite his best efforts, sweet, submissive Elle got under his skin. Which left him constantly wavering between wanting to hurt her and hold her, punish and protect, rage at and soothe. As the book progressed, and he waged an increasingly arduous internal battle between good and evil, darkness and light, his inner turmoil was so deeply moving that with every crack of the whip you could feel it lacerating the hero's dark soul!
“I’d been waiting for this moment for so many years, anticipating, imagining, thinking about her here, under my control, but now that she was, it felt strange. Cold. I felt cold.”
So although a part of him recoiled in horror at what he was doing to exact his revenge, to the point he refused to look himself in the mirror because he couldn’t bear to see his own monstrous reflection staring back at him, he was still determined to carry out his plans to the brutal end. Yet despite his efforts to shut that merciful part of him out, glimmers of humanity still managed to rise to the surface. And that is why no matter how repulsed I was by what he was doing to the heroine, like Elle, I couldn’t bring myself to hate him. The brilliance of his author is that she could make you care, deeply, for a man who for all intents and purposes we should detest. But we don’t. He is just so profoundly broken inside, so damaged, that he was a man one you can't help but ache for. Pity. And yes, even love. And the way I was able to do that was through the empathetic eyes of the heroine. Despite the pain he caused her, she saw him. Saw his inner torment, his suffering, his self-loathing.
“The anguish I saw broke my heart as effectively as his cruelty terrified me. This man battled something so fierce inside himself, something so old, as old as the horror that had taken his sister from him. It had full control of him, this powerful beast.”
By some small miracle could she convince this damaged, tormented soul to take mercy on her? Get him to see that destroying Elle’s world, breaking her spirit, would only serve to obliterate his own life in the process? Or would he finish what he started and reach the point of no return?
RETRIBUTION is a masterfully crafted, brilliantly written, haunting love story with so many riveting twists and turns, it may give you whiplash! It is a book that steals your breath, rattles your soul, consumes you from start to finish. As for me, this is a book I will never, ever forget.

Fan-freaking-tastic!!!

This book is fan-freaking-tastic!!! This is not a fluffy romance, the characters are rough and real and so is the suffering and the love. The story touched me on so many levels. There’s captivating, all-consuming drama that leaves you breathless and keeps you flipping the page to see what happens next. It explores death and destruction and it tests the lengths certain people are willing to go to do what they deem is right. Retribution is a story of grit, life and loving someone no matter what.
I loved the interactions between Adam and Elle and I must admit that in the beginning I did not trust him but as the story progressed he stole my heart. I won’t say much about the plot because the synopsis is very well written and polished.
Adam seeks retribution and closure for his sister’s unfair death by breaking her abuser’s beloved daughter, Elle. The society has failed to punish Elle’s father for his crimes, so Adam has decided to take the law into his own hands, resulting in vigilante justice and punish Elle in proportion to the gravity of her father’s vicious and brutal outburst on his sister 15 years ago, meaning injury for injury.
Adam is determined to punish Elle and make her suffer pain just like her father did with his sister years ago. Both his intentions and actions are gritty, deep dark and evil but the sexual attraction for each other cannot keep them apart. Elle sees the beauty he possesses even when he does not.
I absolutely loved the spanking scenes, Natasha Knight is very good at it! But what I loved most was Adam’s inner journey and the reasons of his transformation. The most intriguing of all is that the “bad” character (Adam) flirts for awhile with the idea of being good, then decides that his true self is on the dark side of the street.
The story is hard, horrific and heart wrenching … pain, struggles, fear, love, family, faith, devotion. It has a bit of everything. The writing in this book is phenomenal and the author did an amazing job making you feel like you are right there in the story the whole time. Thank you Natasha Knight for writing such a wonderful story of hope, strength and love.
If you enjoy spanking…If you enjoy alpha male types… If you enjoy edgy sex scenes…If you enjoy dark erotica… then there is a good chance you will enjoy this book very much.
Bottom-line if you have this book on your TBR…Please do not wait to read it, you will not be disappointed!

Dark and heart wrenching. But amazing!

I’ve never read this author before, but this certainly is not my last book of hers. I was looking for something different. My usual go to is contemporary romance. But the blurb of this book was different than my usual reads. Edgier. Darker. And I am so glad I went outside my normal reads. I found it difficult to even put this book down.
“I wanted to give it to him, wanted give him everything, and as he took from me, he gave me back all of him, letting me see him, his darkness, his weakness, his strength, his vulnerability, his pain.”
Adam Smith is looking for payback. Years ago his sister suffered an unfortunate faith at the hands of a man he now despises. But killing or hurting him would’ve been too easy. It’s not enough. But breaking his heart through, his daughter, Elle Vega? That’s his plan. He wants her to suffer as his sister did. But when he comes face to face with Elle he knows she is not the only person that is about to break.
Adam found that destroying Elle would mean losing a part of himself. He feels something towards her. This was never part of the plan. But as he spends time with her, they build a connection. Something he’s never felt with anyone else. She sees him. Beyond the walls he tries to put up. But it is at that time that Adam knows it can go not go on any longer. He makes a decision. His sister must not be forgotten. And Elle must pay.
The writing is impeccable. The story line? Flawless. The execution of the story is mind-blowing! I held on to every word. The chemistry between Adam and Elle is unlike anything I’ve ever read. It’s so powerful and emotional. Highly erotic and sensual. While Adam wants to destroy Elle, his heart cries out for all of his wrong doing. And despite Adam’s pain, Elle still sees a light in him, even through his darkness. Their love is unconventional. Their love push boundaries. Their loves make you FEEL. Their love hurts, It's ugly. Yet it is beautiful. You may not understand the depths of love until you read their story. That out of something ugly like greed and vengeance, love can still exist. Love perseveres. It endures all.
Retribution is not for the faint of heart. Nothing is as it seems. There are many twists and turns you never see coming. This story is cruel, gritty, and raw. Their love story is not an easy one. But you will be absolutely captivated. It allows you to see that love can never be confined into a box. One does not define love. The author brilliantly tackles themes that are hard to read, but she allows you to understand. The character development in this story is amazing. Your heart will race as the story unfolds. You will question your thoughts and ideas of love. How far can you go for the one you love and are you willing to lose yourself in the process? This heart wrenching story is a must read.
